AKELEY CITY COUNCIL
WORK SESSION
APRIL 29, 2009
6:00 PM CITY HALL
The Akeley City Council met in a work session Wednesday, April 29,
2009 at 6:00 PM. Acting Mayor Cliff Johnson called the meeting to
order. Council members present were Jon Johnson and Jennifer
Mitchell. Troy Hegg arrived at 6:30 PM. Mayor Scott Vettleson was
absent. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by the Council and
attending audience.
The capital improvement plan for roads was discussed. Frank Thelin
had attended a FEMA meeting in Detroit Lakes earlier in the day
regarding funding which is available due to Hubbard County being
declared part of the flood area. Frank said he started the
application process to receive funding to fix roads which had been
damaged by the spring thaw to their pre-existing condition. The
Council would also like to check into any funding that may be
available to help poor drainage areas. Frank Thelin will contact
Ulteig Engineering to get their input on cost to have roads in
Akeley repaired.
Information obtained by the League of Minnesota Cities regarding
whether the City of Akeley could give a $4,000 donation to the Paul
Bunyan Days Committee or not was presented by Troy Hegg. Troy said
the representative he had spoken with from the League of Minnesota
Cities said there was a gray area and that it was recommended for
the City of Akeley to contact the City Attorney. Denise Rittgers
stated she had made several attempts in the past week to contact
City Attorney, Steve Bolton but was unable to reach him. Council
members stated that until they hear from the City Attorney, a
decision could not be made.
Motion
by Troy Hegg seconded by Jon Johnson and carried to adjourn at 7:05
PM.
